This texture is produced through the painstaking work of breaking down the clay, adjusting its hardness, and then hardening it again.

Suzu ware suddenly disappeared during the Sengoku period and has come to be called "the phantom ancient pottery."
Modern Suzu ware, which has been revived after about 400 years, is made using traditional methods that incorporate modern techniques into the traditional process, based on firing to a dark gray color using a strong reducing flame.
