MADO POT (all handmade)
The MADO POT series features a checkered design carved into each piece by hand.
The clay used to make Kyoto's "Raku tea bowls"* is mixed with a small amount of Kyoto red clay, and then the piece is glazed with an original jet-black glaze.
The clay used to make Kyoto's Raku tea bowls is the product of a long tradition and is not found in other production areas.
It has a rough texture (dry feel) and a hard, baked presence.
The earthenware with its ancient history is firmly sealed in, and lattice design and architecture are added as elements.
The result is a pot that "combines old and new."
Note: All pots are handmade so please allow for slight variations in size and shape.
*Raku tea bowl
During the Tensho period (late 16th century), Chojiro, a tile craftsman, under the guidance of Sen no Rikyu, built Jurakudai Palace using clay (Juraku clay) excavated from the ground. The Raku family has been in existence since the first Chojiro and is currently headed by the 16th generation, Yoshizaemon.

SOTTAKU KILN MAKITO KAWAI
He studied under Tadashi Kawai in Kyoto and after eight years of training, he established Sotsutaku Kiln in Tokyo.
Aiming to create "pottery that can be made in Tokyo," he continues to present installations that bring to fruition images that freely shift from architectural shapes to abstraction and then concrete form.
This time, we collaborated with HACHILABO to create our first flower pot.
