The entire surface is finely carved to create a random look that combines rough, rock-like texture with delicate irregularities.

By carbonizing and firing a unique blend of clay with a high iron content, the clay itself turns black and is able to store heat easily.

By repeatedly applying layers of glaze, the piece expresses depth through the contrast of color and luster, with reddish hues in the black and a metallic rust and sheen in the matte finish.
